Default EPL Thread Thursday September 4th

Croatia coach Slaven Bilic heads the shortlist to become West Ham’s new manager after Alan Curbishley’s resignation. (Various)

However, Bilic would prefer to continue as Croatia coach. (The Times)

Bilic has doubts about the strength of West Ham’s squad, but the Hammers remain confident they can persuade him to join them. (Independent)

Why would Bilic leave Croatia now? He could of left after Euro 2008 since he would know that he’d be at the top of most teams coaching list down the road but stayed on with Croatia despite knowing that more money would of been out there waiting for him.

Former Lazio and Inter Milan boss Roberto Mancini is also on West Ham’s shortlist. (Daily Mirror)

Love it when teams float a big name coach that would have no interest in taking over in order for the team to seem big and important in comparison.

Don’t worry the papers didn’t forget about you Newcastle.

Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan will only stay at the club if Dennis Wise’s role is redefined. (The Guardian)

Keegan has delivered an ultimatum to Newcastle, declaring he will leave if Wise is not sacked. (Various)

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley will face a player revolt, led by Michael Owen, if Keegan leaves. (Daily Telegraph)

What has Dennis Wise ever won? Sure you can say the same about Keegan the coach but he has the respect of the fans and it seems like the players as well.

Manchester City are determined to capture Real Madrid forward Ruud van Nistelrooy in the January transfer window. (Telegraph)

Not a chance that Ruud would leave mid season. End of season maybe if Real Madrid can find replacements up front.

Everton chairman Bill Kenwright is looking for a billionaire to buy club and help them compete with the likes of Manchester City. (Various)

One would think Billionaires grow on trees in the EPL.

Brazil legend Pele believes new Manchester City signing Robinho needs ‘counselling’ for turning his back on Chelsea and moving to Eastlands instead. (The Sun)

Maybe so but one thing Robinho won’t be needing is a loan anytime soon
