Typical Newcastle. I actually have a soft spot for Newcastle fans who stay so passionate about their team and receive so little in return. Newcastle as a club is like the guy on the block who dreams big, has big plans but everyone knows that it’s not going to get off the ground. Something bad along the way will happen that will crush those dreams. Well that is Newcastle in a nutshell. They mean well and I really do believe they want to win but have no idea how to go about it.

Manchester City’s new owners will follow up a £135m bid for Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo with offers for Liverpool striker Fernando Torres and Arsenal midfield man Cesc Fabregas. (The Times)

You know it wouldn’t be long before the papers ran with that headline. It’s not like I know Ronaldo personality but he doesn’t seem to be the type solely motivated by money. He wanted to play for Real Madrid because it was closer to his home/family in Madeira, weather/lifestyle and Ronaldo felt he accomplished everything possible at Manchester United. Unless Manchester City can find a way to move closer to sunny Spain this is just a fantasy that will never come true.

As for Torres and Fabregas both are tied to the hip of their coaches. Provided Rafa Benitez and Arsene Wenger are on board neither player has shown a desire to look elsewhere.

Everton pulled out of a deal for Newcastle striker Alan Smith on deadline day after discovering his price tag had increased from £2.8m. (Daily Mail)

Newcastle should of took that £2.8m million pound fee and cut bait. Considering his salary compared to his production Newcastle would of been wise to let Smith go. He’ll have a hard time becoming the player he was at Leeds and at Manchester United before he snapped his ankle.

Chelsea coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has demanded significant funds to strengthen his squad in January after losing out on Robinho to Manchester City. (The Times)

Scolari is feeling “angry and let down” by Chelsea’s failure to sign Robinho. (The Sun)

Even with significant funds there will be a lack of quality players available come the January transfer window. Most of the big name player movement happens before the season gets going.

Liverpool owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett could be ready to sell to Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed. (The Times)

For the sake of Liverpool fan’s this is one headline they don’t need right now. The best thing Hicks and Gillett can do is not even entertain thoughts of selling the club until the season is over and publicly state that.

West Ham boss Alan Curbishley’s future is in doubt after he was unhappy at the deadline day sale of defender George McCartney to Sunderland. (Various)

Losing Anton Ferdinand and George McCartney to Sunderland without replacing them will leave them thin on defense until the January transfer window.

Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher’s book reveals how Sven-Goran Eriksson offered dating advice to England’s players when he said: “There’s no need to have girls in the team hotel. If you see someone you like, just get her phone number and arrange to go to her house after the game. Then we will have no problems.”

Sven’s a player. That is one wise man right there.
