Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has made Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz his number one summer transfer target - and hopes he can land him for a cut-price £12m. (Daily Express)
Just can’t see it myself. While Santa Cruz is a classy striker he just doesn’t fit the typical mold Arsenal looks for. Then again considering Arshavin age he didn't fit the typical player Arsenal goes for and that has worked out well.
Wenger’s interest in Santa Cruz could signal the end of Emmanuel Adebayor’s Arsenal career. (Daily Mirror)
I’m sure Arsenal fans would rather it be Nicholas Bendtner instead of Adebayor.
Manchester United are poised to make a £30m bid for Lyon striker Karim Benzema - to replace Carlos Tevez. (The Sun)
Nothing new with the Benzema to United rumours. The World Cup next summer will effect the future plans for a lot of players. At Lyon, Benzema will play week after week and French coach Raymond Domenech loves to pick players actually playing in France. At United, Benzema most likely will play week after week but nothing is set in stone. Also from an economic stand point if Lyon hangs on to Benzema for another year and he in turn has a great world cup his value can only increase.
Djibril Cisse’s goal drought could lead to him failing to secure a permanent deal with Sunderland. (The Sun)
With Cisse and Kenwyne Jones being very similar strikers in style it doesn’t make much sense for Sunderland to hang onto both of them next season.
Wigan boss Steve Bruce will turn his attention to Manchester United’s Fraizer Campbell after an unproductive scouting trip to Mexico. (The Sun)
Campbell is the forgotten man at United with the early success of Federico Macheda and the promise of Danny Welbeck. Not to mention Manucho currently on loan at Hull City.
Manchester United skipper Rio Ferdinand will be out of action for at least three weeks after the cracked rib he picked up during the Champions League win over Arsenal led him to start coughing up blood. (Daily Mail, Daily Mirror)
However, some reports are saying Ferdinand’s injury is not as bad as first feared and the 30-year-old could be fit to face Arsenal in the second leg on Tuesday. (Daily Star, The Guardian)
If it is a rib injury just can’t see a way Rio Ferdinand can play through that. It’s like being stabbed with even twist and turn out their on the field.

It didn't look good when Rio came off, and I pray he's alright. We need him at the back, especially at the Emirates.
Your comment about Adebayor was the first thing I thought of....Bendtner is absolute trash.
