The past two weeks have been pretty rough for me. I broke up with my GF of 3.5 years. But, i feel like a new man :D Someone once told me 'girls are lieing, cheating, whores' Well, I wholeheartedly agree with that statement now :D Anyways, enough of the past and more of the future....tonights game...UL/WVU.
Louisville is one of only three teams in the country averaging over 7.0 yards per play. The Cardinals are second in the country, averaging 7.41 yards per play, which is second to Hawaii, which leads the nation at 7.99 yards a snap and league-foe West Virginia is third at 7.26.
The Cardinals have been one of the most successful teams in the red zone this season, converting on 34-of-37 trips inside the opponents 20-yard line (91.9 percent). The Cardinals are second in the BIG EAST Conference in red zone offense and are first with 25 red zone touchdowns, including 21 on the ground. Louisville has gone 16-for-17 in the last two games, but have kicked six field goals.
Louisville is tops in the country in sacks per game. Louisville averages 4.14 sacks per game and is coming off a seven-sack performance in the 28- 13 win over Syracuse. Louisville has 28 sacks and 14 different players have contributed at least 0.5 sacks for the year.
Here are some interesting stats for those of you who like to play Q/H
West Virginia is outscoring its opponents in all four quarters in the 2006 season. The Mountaineers have scored 80 points in the first quarter compared to 14 for their opponents; it took until game four for an opponent to get on the board in the first quarter. The second quarter shows West Virginia with a 79-37 scoring advantage. WVU has a 65-10 lead in the third quarter, and the Mountaineers outscore their opponents 62-28 in the fourth. Overall, the Mountaineers are outscoring their opponents 286-89 for a 40.9-12.7 average.
Some interesting quotes from another Big East coach.
“There are some things there that you have to take advantage of (West Virginia’s) defense,” UConn coach Randy Edsall said. “If you can protect and throw the football, I think you can move the football and score some points on West Virginia.”
To stop West Virginia, a defense must be able to make plays in the open field. According to Cincinnati coach Mark Dantonio, that’s one of Louisville’s biggest strengths.
Syracuse coach Greg Robinson said it’s difficult to determine whether Louisville or West Virginia’s defense is tougher to prepare for. Robinson’s Orange have played both teams this season, falling to the Mountaineers, 41-17, and to the Cardinals, 28-13.
“I think Louisville has a good solid defense and they move well,” Greg Robinson said. “Louisville plays a more aggressive style than West Virginia, who is a little more unorthodox. So they both present different problems and it’s hard to say which one is harder to go against.”
“You never really seem to catch them out of position,” Wood said of West Virginia’s defense. “They limit the big play by keeping everything in front of them and wait for you to make a mistake. We’re going to have to work on sustaining our drives this week and keeping the ball moving. A six yard rush might be perfect to get us into a second (down) and four position this week.”
I don't really see how you can limit a team like UL. I feel if WVU keeps everything in front of them, that will be the determining factor in the game. Thats a big if though. UL is already a high powered offense. If you put them in managable 1st down position, UL will eat you up. Remember, they are averaging 7.0 per play and are one of the best red zone offense in the nation.
Louisville owns the nation’s second longest home winning streak at 15, and is 19-1 at Papa John’s since Petrino’s arrival.
The Louisville crowd will be “blacked out,” and pumped up & i liked the way they ended the game last week against Syracuse. They ended it with a 93-yard fourth quarter touchdown drive to seal the victory. I think all the signs point to a UL victory.
