It's about five years too late. I'm surprised he's been there 15 years...it doesn't seem that long ago Johnny Majors was running the show.

I agree Reagan...This Change should have happened 5-6 years ago...
Wonder if Cutcliff will leave Duke and come back to coach them if it is offered?

Have to agree that he hasn't done well at all.
The downfall of that team was when Rodney Garner left and came to UGA.. He is by far the best Recruiting Coordinator in the SEC. UGA had to name him assistant head coach just to justify paying him like a coordinator. He gets in there and can get those inner city kids and pretty much controls the State of GA. When he was at UT they were pulling GA kids left and right... Not now.... You add that with the loss of Cutcliff to Ole Miss you just can't take that kind of hit.. Same shit happened at FSU when they got raided of Assistants about a decade ago...Just shows ya how good Bowden is to at least keep winning...
I think they have mailed it in for he year.. Only game they get up for I believe is Vandy...They play wyoming who they should beat then Kentucky and Vandy... They do not want to lose to Vandy....

I cant believe it took this long...Big program like that should go after a high profile coach...
It is definitely time for Fulmer to move on. UT did have a really tough schedule this season anyway. I'd have to find the thread, but prior to the season, they were the team I predicted to be a bust. Four of their biggest games this year came on weeks where their opponent had a bye the week prior to their game with UT. Not a recipe for success in the SEC.
He is not a bad coach. If he wants to, he could easily resurrect a struggling program somewhere. I bet they are loving this in Tuscaloosa today.
Dirty - I agree with you about Gardner. Their recruiting has gone down since he left.
I see the Fatmer smilie is down.....Wanted to post it one more time in his honor. :D
Tommy Tuberville's the new dean of the SEC!
(if he keeps his job, that is..)

“I have a tremendous amount of respect for Phillip Fulmer and what he’s done at Tennessee, full body of work, 16 years, won a national championship. I can’t say enough about what he’s done there. From a professional standpoint, you hate to see any one of your colleagues go through this kind of thing,” Alabama coach Nick Saban said.
“This part of the business is not a good part of the business.”
———
“The only thing I can say is that he’s had a great tenure at Tennessee,” LSU coach Les Miles said. “He’s done a number of great things. In my opinion, he’s had a very distinguished coaching career. I hope it’s something that he wanted to have happen. I hope it was something that he enjoyed. There will be great memories of his time there. I suspect that he’ll do a lot with his time from this point forward, and certainly, those were his calls.”
——
“Our Tennessee family is united in its goals but divided in the right path to get there. I love Tennessee too much to let her stay divided. That is why I accept the university’s decision that this will be my last season as Tennessee’s football coach,” Phillip Fulmer said Monday in announcing he was accepting the decision for him to step down after this season.
———
“It is a shame, because they are losing more than a football coach. He has helped a lot of players and people, including myself, to be the successes they are today. I guess in the grand scheme, winning is important. I hope the coach they do find will be as good a person and mentor as Coach Fulmer and who will have the well-being of the players in mind, and not just winning games and advancing his own career,” said Titans defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, who was a first-round draft pick in 2002 after playing for Fulmer.
———
“Phillip Fulmer is the reason that I chose to come to Tennessee, and it was one of the greatest decisions I ever made,” two-time NFL MVP Peyton Manning said. “I will always be indebted to him for the impact he has made on my life and my football career. I know I speak for hundreds of players when I say it was an honor to have played for him at UT. I am fortunate to have played four years for one of the greatest coaches in the history of college football.”
———
“Coach Fulmer and I are really good friends. I have a lot of respect for him as a mentor from working with him,” said Trooper Taylor, a former assistant head coach for Fulmer at Tennessee now in his first year as a co-offensive coordinator at Oklahoma State. “I know how he feels about that program. …
“He also has taught me too that it is a business, and he knows better than anybody that it does come down to wins and losses because he’s been there 17 years and had two losing seasons. You’d be hard-pressed to find that anywhere in the country.
———
“It’s a tough part of the profession,” Florida coach Urban Meyer said.
———
“I’m kind of shocked and surprised,” Vanderbilt coach Bobby Johnson said. “I think it’d be hard-pressed to find a guy who’s done more for his alma mater than that.
“Coach Fulmer’s always had an outstanding team over there at Tennessee. … It’s hard to maintain every year the expectations that maybe that program has, but he’s been very consistent at that. He’s had wonderful years since I’ve been playing against him except for one. I think it’s just been an oustanding year.”
———
“I’ve spent time with Coach over the years, and obviously I’m a big fan of their program in watching what they’ve done,” Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher said. “I know it’s very, very difficult. He’ll be OK. He’s done a terrific job. He’s a really, really good coach and a good person. I’ve enjoyed my time with him.”
