SEC championship game earns highest-ever ratings
The Associated Press
9:36 a.m. Monday, December 7, 2009 NEW YORK — The SEC championship between Alabama and Florida earned its highest preliminary television rating since the title game debuted in 1992.
The No. 2 Crimson Tide's 32-13 win Saturday over the defending national champion and top-ranked Gators received an 11.8 overnight rating and 24 share on CBS. That's up 13 percent from last year's 10.4/21 for the same matchup, which also determined a spot in the BCS title game.
It's the highest-rated non-bowl game on any network since the 2006 Ohio State-Michigan matchup with similar implications.
Ratings represent the percentage of all households with televisions tuned into a program, and shares represent the percentage of all homes with TVs in use at the time. Overnight ratings measure the nation's largest markets.
