A.J. Derby may announce intention to play for Iowa
Posted on Oct 01, 2009 by Scott Dochterman.
A.J. Derby will hold a press conference Friday, presumably to announce his intention to play football at the University of Iowa.
Derby, a senior quarterback at Iowa City High, would neither confirm nor deny multiple reports by sources that he has committed to Iowa.
“There’s going to be a press conference (today),” Derby said.
Iowa City High Coach Dan Sabers said the press conference is scheduled for today, mainly because Derby’s father, former all-Big Ten linebacker John Derby, was out of town Thursday.
“I’ve got be fair to everybody,” Sabers said.
Derby has become one of the state’s most-sought recruits in history with scholarships offers from Florida, Michigan, LSU, Miami, Florida State, Alabama and Nebraska. His brother, Zach, is a red-shirt freshman tight end at Iowa.
A month ago, Derby told reporters he still planned visit five schools.
“I didn’t silently commit to Iowa,” Derby said at the time. “I didn’t commit yet, and I’m going to take my officials.”
Derby, who stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 218 pounds, has completed 32 of 56 passes for 781 yards and seven touchdowns this fall. He’s rushed for 311 yards and five touchdowns at 6.6 yards per carry.

This is great news for Hawk fans !!!
They just picked up their next stud TE and love it as this kid out of Illinois named Fedrewicz who jacked with Iowa is sitting there going "shit"
Derby at TE makes total sense and the TEs in Iowas offense may be in the most TE friendly offense in the country
This is a fantastic pickup for Kirk and the window is closing as they are not taking any more rbs and have about 5 more scholies open for secondary and offiv line players and they have 2 studs from Texas in for the Michigan game
DAMN ... DERBY IS HUGE AND THIS IS WHY I LIKE KIRK AND HE IS
KEEPING THE STUDS IN STATE AND THAT IS HOW YA BUILD THE CORE AND IOWA HAS A GREAT REP FOR OFFV LINE AND RBS and its
paying off as he gets Quality and this class is dynamite .. maybe not on paper but there is more to star ratings if ya watch tape and read the quality backgrounds
Simply makes me smile get Mr Derby as much as they feared he was committing to Urban Meyers or Saban

That can't read?
Iowa has one of the best education systems in the country
can't read?
CJ (TE committed to IL) is apparently going to visit Wiscy and Iowa now also... even though he says he is still going to IL)... we will see.. the coaches for Wis & Iowa have been calling him still and telling him to watch how much they use their TE's in the offense...
i'm not sure if Iowa will move Derby to TE or not... no QB last year.. Vandenberg and Wienke are both rFr. Iowa only taking 1 qb in this class. doesn't leave a lot of options and you have to think Vandenberg or Wienke.. one will transfer to want to play since they are in the same class.
I could see TE or maybe LB like his Father played under Fry
I want to see what Dawson does now .... guessing Nebraska
Love to see Fedrowicz jump ships ... hell ... as a TE he would be a fool to not
go to Iowa considering their track record and he could play a lot as a frosh
Not sure on the frosh pair qbs they have
I guess they know in 2 yrs its wide open so gonna be interesting to see with Derby
on board how that pans out
