Ramirez will likely stay in Boston...for now
Manny Ramirez | Red Sox | Interested: Dodgers? Diamondbacks? Mets? Phillies?
The possiblity of Boston Red Sox outfielder Manny Ramirez being traded is slowly deteriorating, ESPN's Jayson Stark writes.
The four teams that had reportedly been interested in Ramirez, the Philadelphia Phillies, New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks have all denied having any such desire for him. It appears he will be staying with the Sox until this season is out but the club is not expected to pick up his option for 2009.
Zaun would welcome trade
Gregg Zaun | Blue Jays
Greg Zaun has not got the playing time he had hoped for from the Toronto Blue Jays. He told the league's official website Tuesday that he would welcome a trade that would get him more playing time.
Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi acknowledged that he is aware of Zaun's unhappiness, adding, "We wish he wouldn't go through the media with it. We wish he would come to us, especially knowing we have a good relationship. Unfortunately, right now, there are no takers for him. If there are, we'll definitely oblige him."
Lo Duca's feels his value has dropped
Paul Lo Duca | Nationals
According to the team's official website, National's catcher Paul Lo Duca feels his trade value has dropped because of the limited amount of innings he's spent behind the plate.
Over the past few weeks, Lo Duca has played primarily at first base and left field. "I'm probably getting shopped around, obviously, but whether teams are interested or not, that's their thing," Lo Duca said. "I'm healthy. I feel great. It's just a matter of getting at-bats, trying to get into a rhythm. I think a lot of teams are backing off because they think I might be still injured, and they want me to catch and I'm not catching. So I have to see what happens."
Rays to scout Phils' Werth
Jayson Werth | Phillies | Interested: Rays
According to Mike Tingle of ESPN Radio 840 in Charlottesville, the Tampa Bay Rays will be sending scout Mike Cubbage to take a look at Phillies outfielder Jayson Werth on Wednesday.
Werth, who's hitting .272 with an .843 OPS this season, can be had for the right price.
Arroyo staying in Cincinnati
Bronson Arroyo | Reds
Reds CEO and President Bob Castellini told the Dayton Daily News that he has no orders to dump salary, and added that he has no desire to trade pitcher Bronson Arroyo: "I'd rather Bronson Arroyo be here next year than me. He has been one of our shining stars here lately."
Hurdle lobbying to keep Fuentes
Brian Fuentes | Rockies | Interested: Phillies? Rays? Cardinals?
According to the Denver Post, Colorado Rockies' manager Clint Hurdle has openly expressed his interest in keeping closer Brian Fuentes with the team.
Though it will likely take a "king's ransom" to pry Fuentes from the Rockies at the deadline, several teams are still looking into the small possibility of acquiring the left-handed reliever. The Cardinals, Phillies and Rays are three of the teams still interested in his services.
Will Jason Bay stay or go?
Jason Bay | Pirates | Interested: Rays?
A team source told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that the Pirates are in deep discussions with the Tampa Bay Rays and other parties regarding a trade for Pirates left-fielder Jason Bay.
Despite these intense negotiations it remains unclear whether Bay will be dealt before the trade deadline, as no elite prospect is being offered for the former All-Star.
As it stands the source contends that there is a 50-50 chance that Jason Bay will be traded.
Huston Street stayin put?
Huston Street | Athletics | Interested: Red Sox? Tigers, Brewers, White Sox, Dodgers? Mets? Reds?
Athletics general manager Billy Beane told Huston Street, who wants to stay in Oakland, that "it'll take a deal to knock his socks off for (Street) to get traded."
Despite this informal promise Street does not know if he will remain in Oakland beyond the next two days, as the Chicago White Sox, Detroit Tigers, Milwaukee Brewers, and, to a lesser degree, the Boston Red Sox have all been rumored to want the former Texas Longhorn, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Maddux wants to stay on West Coast
Greg Maddux | Padres | Interested: Dodgers? Phillies, Dodgers?
According to CBS Sports' Scott Miller, the Philadelphia Phillies talk to the San Diego Padres on Tuesday, asking them to check with starter Greg Maddux to see if he would waive his no-trade clause for a possible deal. Maddux rejected the idea of going to an East Coast team almost immediately.
It is looking like the Dodgers remain as the only possible trade destination for Maddux, and as of Tuesday, they had not shown any interest.
Orioles unlikely to make moves
With the trade deadline about 30 hours away and no team coming close to the asking price for Brian Roberts, George Sherrill or Aubrey Huff, the Baltimore Orioles will likely let the deadline pass without a major move being made.
General manager Andy MacPhail told the Baltimore Sun's Jeff Zrebiec, "I don't see anything on the immediate horizon."
MacPhail then explained that he will not rush into a trade, saying, "It's the same litmus test that it always is - are we better than before we made the trade or not? I think you have to avoid making a knee-jerk reaction. You can't have one of these 'just get me through the deadline where I did something trades.' You're going to have to live with it."
Tigers will look internally for pitching
The Detroit Tigers will likely not make a trade at the deadline for a reliever, instead they will look within their farm system for bullpen help, Jon Paul Morosi of the Detroit Free Press writes.
Detroit has been looking several prospects for a possibly call-up. Rudy Darrow, who was recently promoted to Double-A Erie, is a feasible option. His fastball sits around 90 mph with a deceiving sidearm angle. Another possible option is 2008 draft pick Ryan Perry, a hard throwing right-hander out of the University of Arizona.
Rangers looking for pitching
The Texas Rangers have inquired about Royals right-hander Zack Greinke according to a major league source. However an acquisition of Greinke, who is 8-7 this season with a 3.98 ERA, will likely require top prospects.
The team is also apparently looking at Minnesota's Boof Bonser and the White Sox's Nick Masset, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
Dodgers searching for help up the middle
Though Nomar Garciaparra (knee) believes he will be ready to return to the team in a few days, the Los Angeles Dodgers would still like to get their hands on a player who could fill either of the middle infield positions, reports the team's official website. Astros' infielder Mark Loretta and Royals' infielder Mark Grudzielanek have been mentioned as possible trade targets.
General manager Ned Colletti said the team is also looking for bullpen help.

LaTroy Hawkins Traded To Astros
By Tim Dierkes [July 30 at 7:19pm CST]
According to Richard Justice of the Houston Chronicle, the Astros acquired LaTroy Hawkins from the Yankees. The Yanks will receive minor league second baseman Matt Cusick in return. Does this set up a deal for another Astros reliever, or are the 'Stros just trying to close the 9.5 game wild card gap?
Are the 'stros serious? why are they trading for these old shitstains?![]()
- The Yankees, Tigers, Rangers, and Rays have talked to the Mets about Scott Schoeneweis. The Mets might prefer to acquire a replacement if they move Schoeneweis. Arthur Rhodes is one possibility if he doesn't end up in Florida. Geoff Baker believes it's down to the Marlins and Brewers for Rhodes, with the other getting Eddie Guardado.
- The Yanks might have to acquire a reliever now that they've dealt Kyle Farnsworth. Rhodes isn't on their radar though.
- The Ivan Rodriguez trade could kick off other trades for catchers.
- The Yankees have been getting calls on Carl Pavano. One unconfirmed rumor has the Mets interested.
Who in the hell could be interested in Pavano? Is that for real? If the guy had anything at all left, the Yanks could sure use him!
Some weird names being thrown around for sure
