    Default NFL THURSDAY QB ROTATION!

    NFL Thursday Notes
    by Scott Spreitzer

    CHIEFS at GIANTS

Chiefs HC Herm Edwards said he wanted his team to run the ball, run the ball, then run some more behind his "solid offensive line". Unfortunately, that added up to just 172 total yards, 11 first downs, and a 24-14 loss last week at Houston.

This week, Edwards has said his starters are likely to play into the second quarter. KC remains thin at RB and more importantly, at QB. Damon Huard (sprained foot) will likely sit out Thursday's game and Brodie Croyle (Shoulder) will miss the game. KC brought Jeff Smoker into the mix in the last week. Trent Green will start and play at least the first quarter. Casey Printers, who performed terribly last week at Houston is the likely QB to follow.

Defensively, the Chiefs were banged-up on the line, especially at defensive end and gave up too many rushing yards to the Texans. They will still be a little short on depth in Thursday's game.

The Giants will play their starters into the second quarter according to all reports. Eli Manning will play the first quarter with Rob Johnson playing the remainder of the first half. HC Tom Coughlin will then use Hasselbeck and Lorenzen in the second half, however he has not announced a 3rd and 4th rotation order.

The Giants are also thin at RB, though it looks like Tiki Barber may see some action. Wide receiver is another position of concern for the Giants. Three of Manning's main targets have missed a lot of practice due to injuries. Jeremy Shockey finally returned to practice following a concussion and he's expected to see his first game action on Thursday.

The Giants were anemic on defense last week, but that unit was also heavily banged-up. Demps, Emmons, Short, and Strahan have all suffered nagging injuries over the last two weeks. Their playing time, if any, has not been announced as of yet.

    EAGLES at RAVENS

Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Johnson has some new nickel packages. He thinks this defense has more speed than any he's had since coming here with head coach Andy Reid in 1999. Johnson said we may see a few more of those "added wrinkles" in Thursday night's game.

HC Andy Reid has not yet announced his QB rotation for the game at Baltimore. The RB situation is still thin. Westbrook won't play this preseason. Reno Mahe will continue to play with the starters. Ryan Moats is still recovering from a knee injury, but is expected to see some time with the reserves. And, Bruce Perry is expected to play despite suffering a concussion in last weekend's game.

As far as Baltimore is concerned, nine players missed last week's preseason opener. Of those nine regulars, five returned to practice this week including: LB Ray Lewis, CB Samari Rolle, CB David Pittman and TE Rob Abiamiri.

HC Brian Billick has not yet announced a QB rotation for Thursday's game, but reading between the lines, it looks as though McNair may see about the same amount of playing time

I'd still stick with Kc over NY and Balt over Philly

Philly has absolutely no running game. Period. There physically isn't anyone there. Balt. has 2 good QB's in McNair and Boller ( yes..Boller), plus a rushing attack.

Just stay away from the over/unders

I didn't see it. I look more at the overall team and decide. With Free agency the way it is, you need to look at the past 5 years if you are going to compare apples to apples.

A lot of guys take the spreads from 10 years ago, and then try to compare it. it just doesn't add up. Basically from '99 and on, you see the treads of a 50 - 50 split with teams. The coaches that sit on leads ( NE, PITT, Rookie coaches) kill that ATS matchup.

The Denver one is more impressive. 11-1 ATS. Supports my AFC bid for Denver
