    Chelsea to open Shevchenko talks

AC Milan will hold talks with Chelsea after Andriy Shevchenko confirmed he will leave the Italian club.
Shevchenko, 29, met with Milan vice president Adriano Galliani on Friday to discuss his future and afterwards said: "I'm leaving for family reasons.

"It wasn't a problem of relations and there is no economic problem."

Galliani said: "This is certainly the most painful divorce since I have been at Milan. We will begin negotiations with Chelsea and it will not be easy."

Shevchenko has an American wife and it is understood that they want their son Jordan to learn English.

Galliani, who is in charge of the day-to-day operations at Milan added: "It's a victory of the English language over the Italian language.

"I've tried to convince him to stay - even one minute prior to the press conference.

Milan offered Shevchenko a contract extension until 2011.

"My wish is that the club can evaluate my transfer," added the Ukraine international.

"Of course I am saddened because I have seen the looks on the faces of the fans and because of the many messages I have received."

Shevchenko's wife, Kristen Pazak, is understood to be friends with the partner of Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.

"My wife has nothing to do with this," said the striker. "We decided together for the best interests of our family.

"I don't speak English, my wife does not speak Ukrainian - the only language we have in common at the moment is Italian.

"The only way to be able to teach our children our love that we have for them is the English language."

Shevchenko joined Milan from Dynamo Kiev in 1999 and is the second highest scorer in the club's behind Gunnar Nordahl with 173 goals.

He scored 19 goals in 28 Serie A matches last season and he also netted nine goals in the Champions League.

Shevchenko will captain Ukraine at the World Cup finals in Germany this summer.

FIFA will soon put a salary cap into Football (soccer) because the likes of chelsea just want everybody..Shevchenko is a great player but he wont find it easy. The Premier league is tough and the defenders are not as soft as the Italian league! (dont want to confuse people but this was my opinon) LOL

Where did you hear this, Majid? I don't see it happening anytime soon! Chelski and the other rich clubs have got way too much to lose and way to much power to let it happen.

I totally agree. At some point (very soon hopefully) when teams start repeating as Champs of Leagues and Tournaments other teams will start to complain and FIFA will have no choice. Not to mention people not showing up because they don't feel their team/s are competitive because it's only a formality and evrybody knows who'll win in the end......BOL

TRX welcome to the forum my friend. Good to see some friendly footie (soccer banter here and hopefully some more soon with the world cup near)

It is the same as life that as the rich become richer the poor become poorer. Chelsea were on the verge of bankruptcy and if it wasnt for our russian billionaire friend they would have gone down the toilet. All they do now is try and buy everybody and even get into scenarios just to stop other teams(contenders) buying the player. A prime example is that Nigerian superstar who was on the verge of signing for man utd from a scandinavian club before chelsea tapped him and his dad to sign for him. Now fifa is delegating the situtation. Bottom line is no man, woman or team is bigger than one sport. For the bottom clubs to survive FIFA has to do something or watch the game become a joke. Imagine having teams such as chelsea whose subs bench is better than most first teams??

As for shevchenko I think chelsea will use cash and crespo as a bargaining tool because his wife dont like living in london. I am still trying to figure out why living in knightbsridge and having all those shops and a credit card which has probably got over 100k limit is a bad way of livng for crespo's wife LOL.
