ID checks on the increase, says GB
GB Group, the electronic age and identity verification product provider, says there has been a major increase in the number of identity checks being carried out by egaming operators.
The company, which includes Betfair and PartyGaming among its client base, says the growing client usage of its URU identity authentication product is a ?clear indication that gaming operators are migrating from manual identity checks to electronic ID systems?.
Rod Laurence, managing director of GB Group?s data authentication division, said: ?As the egaming sector begins to mature, there is a major shift towards cost control and efficiencies.?
He said Betfair was one of the first operators to switch to the URU system, which has been developed in conjunction with BT.
URU works by cross-checking personal information provided by an individual at the point of acquisition against a comprehensive range of up-to-date UK and international population data sources to confirm the individual is who they say they are.
Laurence added: ?Betfair was previously spending more than £1m a year to verify the age and identity of its new customers. This has been reduced significantly by switching to URU online.?
GB has recently signed further contracts with egaming operator VIP Management Services, which manages nine major egaming brands.
