Can Kyle Bush Keep up His Amazing run this Week at Michigan?
- The drivers of the Sprint Cup Series will continue their pre-Chase schedule on Sunday when they participate in the 3M Performance 400 at Michigan International Speedway.
Kyle Busch visited victory lane yet again last weekend, holding off all challengers in the Centurion Boats at The Glen at Watkins Glen International. The road course win was Busch’s series-leading eighth checkered flag of the season.
Tony Stewart had to settle for a second-place finish at Watkins Glen, while Marcos Ambrose, Juan Montoya, and Martin Truex Jr. rounded out the day’s Top 5. Kevin Harvick, Jimmie Johnson, Denny Hamlin, Carl Edwards, and Kurt Busch made up the rest of the Top 10 finishers.
Matt Kenseth was 12th at Watkins Glen, Kasey Kahne was 14th, Jeff Burton was 17th, Greg Biffle was 21st, Dale Earnhardt Jr. was 22nd, and Clint Bowyer was 23rd. Jeff Gordon disappointed with a 29th-place result, while David Ragan ended up in 30th spot.
Kyle Busch holds a 242-point lead on Edwards for top spot in the driver standings as the Chase for the Sprint Cup grows closer, with Johnson two points back of Edwards in third place. Earnhardt Jr. fell two spots into fourth in the standings on the weekend.
Burton, Gordon, Stewart, Kahne, Hamlin, Biffle, Harvick, and Kenseth round out the drivers currently in Chase positions. Bowyer is 22 points back of Kenseth in 13th place, while Ragan is another 67 points behind in 14th place.
Kurt Busch won the 3M Performance 400 last year, while Earnhardt Jr. took the checkered flag in the LifeLock 400 at Michigan back in June. Gordon, Kenseth, Biffle, and Ryan Newman all have a pair of Cup wins at Michigan in their careers, while Stewart, Edwards, and Kahne have each won there once.
After racing at Michigan the drivers of the Sprint Cup Series will move on to Bristol Motor Speedway for the Sharpie 500 on August 23. The circuit will then stage the Pepsi 500 at Auto Club Speedway and the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 at Richmond before the Chase begins in the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire on September 14.

Michigan used to be very boring for me, but lately we have had real good finishes and not so bad a race, although I'll take the short trackin and road or even open-wheel any day.
