NASCAR odds are out for this week’s race at 2.66-mile Talladega Superspeedway, site of the Aaron’s 499. Kyle Busch is the defending race-winner in this event and the sportsbook favorite, but it’s Tony Stewart who went to Victory Lane when the Sprint Cup series was last here in the fall, and he has a ton of momentum.
Busch has NASCAR odds of +500 this week, but the No.18 team has hit a rough patch since winning at Bristol, posting a finishing average of 19.7 in three races since. Busch’s win last year was almost a surprise, as he had never finished in the top 10 at Talladega in seven previous races.
Stewart has stormed out of the gate as a driver/owner, as his runner-up finish at Phoenix was his third straight top-5. Stewart’s finishing average of 14.2 at Talladega is second only to Kurt Busch’s 12.5, and he had an eighth-place run in the Daytona 500 to start the season. Due to his alliance with Hendrick Motorsports, Stewart’s team has great equipment, and they’ll definitely run up front with NASCAR odds of +800.
Speaking of Hendrick, they’ll be a force at Talladega, as Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr. share NASCAR odds of +800 with Stewart. Gordon is tops among active drivers with six wins here, while “Junior” has five. Jimmie Johnson has a win here, and the fact that he is always in contention is the reason he has NASCAR odds of +900. Even Mark Martin will be a factor with NASCAR odds of +1500, as he comes off a win at Phoenix.
Kurt Busch should also challenge with NASCAR odds of +1200, and the No.2 driver loves coming to Talladega. Although he’s never won here, the older Busch has 11 top-10s in 16 races here, and his DNF here last year was only the second in his time at Talladega. Busch has also been consistent this year, and as a former series champion, we know he has the talent.
The first part of the race will be the feeling-out period as drivers to avoid the “Big One”, which is inevitable when you have large packs of cars racing so close together at 200 mph for long stretches of time. But the “Big One” doesn’t occur until late in the race when the drivers are pushing it to the limit, so online betting players can expect a typically wild Talladega finish. The draft is a tricky thing to navigate, as many drivers have been hung out to dry because they thought they had other cars coming with them when they get out of line. It’s a very special skill, and Stewart is one of the best. That team has been knocking on the door to Victory Lane, and this is the place where they’ll get it done. Make Tony Stewart your NASCAR betting pick.
