    Default UFC News

Saw some news about UFC 68....

First of all, they are holding it in Ohio on Saturday March 3. This is awesome for anyone living on the East Coast. I live in Pa along with some others here on TFZ and I can boldly speak for them in saying that its nice to see the octagon will be setting up closer than Vegas. Will be nice to be in the crowd instead of my living room.

No match-ups have been announced as of yet, but they have anounced three of the fighters who will be throwing on the gloves for the event and I have to say, I am excited to see all of them fight again... Tim Sylvia, Rich Franklin, and Matt Hughes. No matter how you look at it, this card should be exciting. Sanchez/Hughes? Swick/Franklin? Vera/Sylvia? Only time will tell.

In other news.... "Rowdy" Roddy Piper has been diagnosed with cancer. It is a sad day for the fans of WWF back in the day, when wrestling was cool. Not so sure how much longer he will be "asking the questions and giving the answers." ..... Anyway, thought you might want to know about that.

Some recent articles have mentioned that Pride FC, Japan's version of the UFC(and also where Rampage took it to The Iceman) has been struggling lately. There is a lot of talent over there and if Zuffa begins to pick up some of those fighters, the UFC could change into a completely different ballgame. Keep an eye out for some new contracts and exciting new match ups in 2007.

Former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin (Pictures) will return to action for the first time since losing his belt to Anderson Silva when he faces quickly-rising middleweight contender Jason MacDonald (Pictures), March 3 in Columbus, Ohio, Sherdog.com confirmed on Friday.

Tough one to call here guys.

Alves (10-3-0) could be fined and suspended by the NSAC after trace amounts of spironolactone, a diuretic which could be used to cut weight and mask steroids, was found in the explosive Brazilian welterweight's system. Kizer said post-fight drug tests indicated Alves, 23, was clean of steroids.

Through an American Top Team spokesman, Alves indicated he did not take any diuretics. The fighter conceded, however, that it's possible something could have been in the supplements he ingested leading up to the bout.

Spironolactone, also known as a "water pill," is generally prescribed to treat high blood pressure, swelling caused by congestive heart failure, kidney and liver disease and conditions in which there are abnormally low levels of potassium in the blood, according to WebMD.com.

Macdonald not only got the fight with Franklin, but he impressed UFC matchmaker Joe Silva enough to have him offer a signing bonus and a four fight contract. Win or lose, we will be seeing this ground wiz for a while.

    Crazy news here....

I heard the next confirmed fight for Forrest Griffin is against Ian Freeman. If you don't know about Freeman, he was a terror at heavyweight. He completely punished Frank Mir (in his prime) until he couldn't even stand on his own. He is basically an English Jeff Monson who loves to strike and is real good at it. His nickname is "The Machine". Good luck Forrest. Three losses in a row is "TUF" to deal with.

    UFC 67:
-Mirko Cro Cop (#2 Heavyweight in the World)* vs. Eddie Sanchez
-Anderson Silva (#2 Middleweight)* vs. Travis Lutter
-Quinton Jackson (#7 Light Heavyweight)* vs. Marvin Eastman
    -Ryoto Machida vs. Sam Hoger
    -Tyson Griffin vs. Frank Edgar
    -Melvin Guillard vs. Dustin Hazelett
    -Scott Smith vs. Patrick Cote

    UFC 68:

-Matt Hughes (#2 Welterweight in the World)* vs. Chris Lytle
-Tim Sylvia (#5 Heavyweight)* vs. Gabriel Gonzaga
-Rich Franklin (#5 Middleweight)* vs. Jason MacDonald
-Jon Fitch (#7 Welterweight)* vs. Luigi Fioravanti

I am much more excited to see UFN on the 25th than either of these two PPVs. Although I will watch both of them anyway, I will definitely be enjoying the undercards in each more than the fights with big names.

Silva/Lutter....come the fuck on. I am just glad we don't have to see Serra get his ass kicked too. That would just be too much for one night.

I want to see CroCop and Rampage in a bad way.

Things I am happy to see...... Guillard/Hazelett, Smith/Cote, Tyson Griffin.

Hughes vs Lytle? Thats a charity case if I have ever seen one. Is he afraid to fight The Nightmare? And rumor has it he chose Lytle for this fight. What a chump. I never liked him anyway.

Why does Gonzaga get Sylvia? Last time I saw Sylvia he was in the octagon chest to chest with Brandon Vera. Thats a fight I want to see. I am sure Gonzaga will put up a good fight but Sylvia Vera is where the money is.

Franklin/Macdonald... I like Macdonald but I think this is a bit too quick. He better start working on some stand up. Or wear a metal mask for the fight.

    Dana White SUCKS!!!!

Talks about Fedor coming from Pride. Seems like Pride is really falliing apart and UFC is making lots of money. 2 + 2 = 4

Now that I am done pouting and I have come back to my senses for a second, I want to make one thing clear. Not all of these bouts are confirmed. Not even the Hughes running through Lytle mess. It is said that Swick and Karo are both scheduled on the card, both without opponents so far. Obviously we won't see Swick/Franklin but a Karo/Hughes fight may happen. I don't know... I am coming to the painful realization that this is much more about the money than anything else. Dana White sucks.

Here is an excellent clip of Heath Herring. One badass Texan! He is making his debut in the UFC against Jake O'Brien. Should be good!
