Nick Blackburn has struggled in the second half of the season. But in his last two games it looks like he could be back in form. Against Chicago and Cleveland he pitched a total of 13.3 innings giving up 16 hits 2 Runs 0 W's and 9 K's Now the 16 hits in 13 innings are not good of course but the key is the No Walks. Lets talk about that for a second, he was facing a Cleveland and Chicago two teams that rarely show any patience at the plate. That in my opinion will be the key to tonight's game in Detroit, can the Tigers be patience at the plate and make Blackburn work. It's funny how the successful teams (Yanks,Boston,Angels ETC) all show patience at the plate.
Blackburn has two starts against Detroit One on May 5th @ Det (A long time ago) he got shelled to the tune of 3.3 innings 8H's 9Runs 6ER's 3W's and 1K. His next Start against Det was @Home and was great a complete game 7 hitter giving up 2 runs 1 Earned 1 W and 6K's and it was against Porcello who got killed that game.
Blackburn is 4-7 on the road with a 4.16ERA 6-6 at night and 3-7 on tonight's surface Grass.
Detroit's Rick Porcello has been pitching well in his last six starts dating back to Aug 28th vs. T.B. He's also 8-3 at home with a 4.07ERA 9-6 at night and 14-7 on Grass. I think this is a very good spot for him.
He pitched a very good game against Minn (9-18) last out pitching 6 innings 8H's 3R's 1W 1K but loss 3-0 He has a 1-2 record this year against Minn with 17 Innings Pitched and a 3.81 ERA.
I like the Kid Porcello tonight which has steamed a little to -133 as I write this. My only problem with this play is this kid will not go pass 6 innings and with the Tigers bullpen that could be a problem. The Twins do win the bullpen match-up if both pitchers are gone by 6. So I'm going to play the Tigers on the 5 inning line -127 and for the Game -133. This is game One of what comes down to a playoff type series I'll take the home team and hopefully be free-rolling going into the 6th inning.
Good Luck and enjoy this game and this series it's all we have this year.

Yea rain-out. All stadiums in the East and Mid-West should have to have a retractable roof it should be law. Now I have to look to see how each pitcher pitches during the year with extra rest.
