I prefer 'ZoneAlarm PRO Firewall 2010'.I think that is the best one.I like that one because of some features of it like Two-way Firewall,Compatible with anti-virus software,Multi-layered security for your PC and so on..ZoneAlarm Firewall Pro is a great product that will keep your computer safe from intrusions and online Internet threats.
I had the 6 version working well on XP32, but when I moved to the 7 version on XP32 I could not configure it to block the ins and outs of my choosing. I'd love to use the 7 version on Win7-64 but only if I can get a good word from the geeks out there because I'm also willing to stay with the Win7 built-in FW.
You can also get a router for about $50 that has an SPI firewall which is extremely useful in keeping all computers on your home network secure while they need to go online and receive upgrade patches.
I'm currently using Outpost Firewall Free, it reduced monitoring in its default settings, the top choice for this section if you can put up with the ads. And you can further reduce or disable intrusion protection if it becomes too much of a nag -- right click the tray tool > "Settings..." > "Host Protection" > and select "Low" on the slider (to disable anti-leak protection).
