Regarding Buying RAM

i want buying a DDR1 RAM, one of my friends suggest me buy 2 Ram (256+ 256) comapre to one 512 mb. please suggest me which option is good buy 2 (256)mb or one (512)mb

I would get One 512 or even better if you have two slots get a gig and go with two 512 and you will be humming like a sewing machine

Nowadays a motherboard can hold up to two memory chips which mean that you have an option to install two chips obtaining the total ram memory of up to 16 GB so why buy 512. I would suggest you to buy a DDR3 that offers doubled bandwidth as compared to DDR2 and offers memory capacity anyway between 512 MB and 8GB.

He suggested that because he thinks that your MB have dual channel option. Dual channel is system where 2 RAM memory sticks work better than just 1. So, if you have dual channel buy 2*256, if not - one 512.

1 RAM is always better than 2. If either of the 2 stops working, your whole RAM gets affected, see?
